Virechana Therapy

A Classical Ayurvedic Purification Therapy for Pitta Balance and Internal Cleansing

Virechana is one of the five principal purification procedures of Panchakarma, Ayurveda’s classical detoxification and rejuvenation system. This specialized therapy is designed to eliminate aggravated Pitta Dosha and accumulated Ama (metabolic waste as described in Ayurveda), supporting healthy digestion, metabolism, liver function, skin health, and overall well-being.

At Taamra Yug Ayurveda Panchkarma & Cosmetology Center, every Virechana programme is individually planned after a detailed Ayurvedic consultation. Our Vaidyas assess your Prakriti (body constitution), Vikriti (current imbalance), Agni (digestive strength), and overall health before determining whether Virechana is appropriate for you.

Understanding Virechana Therapy
How It Works

Virechana, also known as Therapeutic Purgation, is a carefully supervised Ayurvedic purification therapy that removes aggravated Pitta Dosha from the body through controlled cleansing.

Unlike self-administered laxatives or colon cleanses, Virechana follows a structured Ayurvedic protocol. The body is first prepared using Snehana (oleation) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy) to loosen and mobilize accumulated doshas before purification.

This therapy is always performed under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic physician after proper assessment.

Benefits of Virechana Therapy
How Virechana Therapy Works
Comprehensive Ayurvedic Consultation
Your journey begins with a detailed consultation where the Vaidya evaluates your health condition, Prakriti, Vikriti, digestive strength (Agni), lifestyle, and suitability for Virechana Therapy.
Preparatory Phase (Purva Karma)
Before purification, the body is prepared through internal oleation (Snehapana), external oil therapies, Abhyanga, and Swedana (herbal steam therapy). These procedures help mobilize aggravated doshas from deeper tissues into the digestive tract for elimination.
Therapeutic Purification (Pradhana Karma)
On the scheduled treatment day, carefully selected Ayurvedic herbal preparations are administered under medical supervision to facilitate controlled therapeutic purgation according to classical Ayurvedic principles. Throughout the procedure, your condition is closely monitored by the treating Vaidya.
Recovery & Post-Therapy Care (Paschat Karma)
Recovery is an essential part of Virechana.

Your physician will guide you through:
• Samsarjana Krama (graduated dietary regimen)
• Lifestyle recommendations
• Herbal medicines where required
• Follow-up assessment

This phase helps restore digestive strength and maximize the long-term benefits of therapy.
Conditions It May Help Manage
